Thanksgiving with Darin & Kerry

28 November 2019

To our Friends and Family we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving and may your Blessings continue to be Bountiful.

Our thanks go to our family for the blessings they have bestowed upon us and for our friends who have brought us laughter and friendship.

We celebrated Thanksgiving with son Darin and son-in-law, Kerry. They got married in 2014 and we had a big celebration in Las Vegas with both families. Our last Thanksgiving with them was in November 2017. As usual they put on a feast that was enjoyed by all.Kerry's daughter, Erin came in from California and other members of the Tucson family were present. Thank you for a wonderful day.

Lunch at Tubac Jack's with Darin

24 November 2019

Today we drove with Darin to Tubac to have lunch at Tubac Jack's. We last visited this area in 2015 in order to visit the Presidio's and Missions and other historic sights.

We ordered the nachos with chicken for an appetizer to share. This was a meal in itself. Wish I had taken a photo... the best nachos we have eaten. Darin and I shared a pulled pork with slaw and homemade potato chips and John got the massive burrito which was also his dinner next night. Three could have shared.

We then walked around the town which consists of art studios and shops. It was a nice afternoon.

Last Thursday, I had Darin over for my homemade chili and visit. Made too much and we ended up eating for two more meals including chili dogs.

26 November 2019

I have been in touch with Brent who managed Roy  Purcells' gallery in Tubac which has since closed. I have two  Purcell pieces of artwork that I purchased in Las Vegas in 1981 and since we are full time and my children do not have the same appreciation for my taste in art, was able  through my contact with Brent meet with him and gift him the artwork. So we met at Starbucks on Duval Mines Rd near Green Valley. Thank you Brent, know they will find a good home.

I also have two Ben Hampton's that belonged to my Mother that is my next project. For now they are stored under the Bed as no place to hang in the iHome.

We are going to Darin and Kerry's for Thanksgiving.

We leave here on Saturday for 1 night in Wickenburg,AZ before arriving at Nellis AFB for our winter stay until March. Will be good to visit with our RV friends again.

Kitt's Peak with Darin

17 November 2019

Today we went with Darin up  to Kitt's Peak Observatory Visitor Center around 60 miles away. John and I were last here in 2015. Drive up to the observatory is winding to an elevation of around 6,800 ft for 12 miles. We had our picnic lunch and a bluejay was hovering over us hoping for some orts. Got a good picture as he posed for me.

The Visitor Center has some interesting and informative displays as well as a gift shop. The walk around the area affords some good views of the different observatories including the solar tunnel. There were also bear and snake warning signs posted. Fortunately did not see any, although I would have liked to see a bear.

Brief History:

After surveying more than 150 sites, Kitt Peak was chosen for the first National Astronomical observatory. It is home to the largest collection of astronomical telescopes in the world sitting on the Tohono O'odham Nation. The peak has 25 optical and 2 radio telescopes. It was founded in 1958 and a lease signed  for 200 acres with the Nation that is valid as long as scientific research is maintained. You can opt for a walking tour or do a self guided tour. Mayall 4-m telescope built in 1973 is the largest optical telescope on Kitt Peak. There are also night tours offered at different times of the year.

Arrival Davis Monthan AFB-Tucson

13 November 2019

Before leaving Ft Huachuca Campground got picture of Bobcat and 3 deer.

Bobcat

Our drive to Davis Monthan AFB and our home until the 30th was easy..only 75 miles via Hwy 90 to IH 10 and exit 270. We were fortunate to get a site #264 in area back of office. We normally have stayed across from the office, but found we like this side better..gravel,long pull in and spaces are roomier. Our friends Dick and Deb are here as well as couple Millie and Regie we met at Kirkland AFB in ABQ on our way down. We also have friends Marla and Bill who live here and our other RV friends  Ken and Connie we met at Wright Patterson in 2012 will be here this weekend.

Of course our most important reason for visiting is son Darin and son-in-law Kerry who moved here several years ago. Darin is a middle school science teacher and Kerry is a designer with Bassett Furniture.

Tonight we went over to Darin and Kerry's for dinner and as always it was delicious and enjoyable. They have a beautiful home decorated to perfection and warm. Relaxing to enjoy wine and nosh on the patio. We will spending more time with them while we are here. Thank you for a relaxing evening. We will be spending Thanksgiving with them.

Yesterday treated myself to a manicure..no polish. First time in over 20 years. Think I will start going once a month.

We are seriously thinking about spending more winter time here instead of Nellis AFB in LV. Campground has lots of activities and several of the RV dealers bring in RV's and food from time to time.

Weather is good..sleep with window open at night. John thinks he heard coyotes during the night.

Deer and Other Things in Campground at FT Huachuca

12 November 2019

Well, we depart tomorrow for Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson until the 30th. While there we will visit with RV friends and son Darin and son-in-law Kerry.

Must say we will miss this park and have intentions of returning in January 2020 if not before. Brenda who manages the office does a wonderful job and have enjoyed our conversations. This is one of the quietest parks we have stayed and of course, the wildlife especially the deer always add to the enjoyment. When we were here in November 2009 for 3 nights due to the rattlesnake signs which have now been removed, said I would never return..but John convinced me and I am glad he did. Fortunately did not see any snakes, but sure they are around.

Had some beautiful sunsets and rainbows and fall foliage is pretty. Town of Sierra Vista affords some good shopping and restaurants. Weather was ideal. Had a good view of the Aerostat.

Ready to Launch

Yesterday when I arose saw three deer trying to find their way back from campground. They were trying to figure out how to get on the other side of fence. They would go one direction and then turn around and go in the opposite direction. Finally they trotted down the road and found their way back to the grazing area behind the campground. Can never get enough deer photos.

Assessing the Situation

How do we get on other side of fence?

Maybe this way

Even asked one deer to pose for me while driving out 1 day. She was very cooperative and seemed to know I wouldn't harm her.
