Last Days in Oregon

25 May-30 May 2019

This weekend we drove to Madras to see Colt show his steer and Cade his 4 pigs at the Desert Storm Jackpot judging at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Colt got 2nd place and Cade got 1-3rd and 3- 2nds. Don't fully understand what it is all about, but an education in how the steer and pigs are judged. Proud of the grandsons and look forward how they do at the Deschutes County Fair in August. We attended last year. Wishing you all the best this year.

Later met up in Redmond for dinner.

On Monday after the Jackpot met at the house for dinner. Fixed spaghetti, texas toast, salad and cherry pie. Our last time to be with Hope and family until next May. Our visits were short and not as frequent as in the past due to the many activities of baseball, fair preparation, school and work schedules. Understand and amazed at how organized and involved everyone is.
Builds character and strength for the grandsons. Good work family. Love you all.

We were able to attend several of Cade's baseball games. He plays 2nd base. Also went to one of Colt's. Great job guys.

Heading for Home

On Tuesday we took Ernie and Alinda to dinner at the View Cafe at Juniper Golf Club next to RV park. Tuesday they feature prime rib with twice baked potato, vegetables, salad and dessert. Nice view overlooking golf course and rock chucks. Had a nice visit and hope to see them when they pass through Las Vegas this winter on their way to Arizona. Thanks Alinda for yummy assortment of cookies to enjoy on the road.

Wednesday we departed for Stayton and Hillyers Ford for MH oil change . When in Oregon we always use them as the service is good and price of $60 more than fair. We then went to Les Schwab in Salem for brakes on the MH. Due to time constraint and not having parts, could not do the back ones, but said we could probably to another 10,000 miles. Think  John wants to have it done by them when we are at Whidbey Island. They do such a good job with service. Wish we could have gotten our tires thru them, but don't think they sell Michelin and FMCA does not have discount agreement with them.

We overnighted HEE HEE ILLAHEE, our favorite RV park in Salem before departing for MCChord AFB in Tacoma for 2 nights.

On the way to Tacoma we stopped at Les Schwan in Chehalis to have them check out ABS light that came on. Took it out for test drive and reset it. Not sure the problem, but it came on again on way to McChord.

Coming thru gate at McChord, right rear side light came off. Guess John was too close to wall. He firmly believes the Owl is the reason for all our mishaps. I keep telling him to be nice to Oscar.

Damage to Left Side

Anyway, looking forward to our month at Whidbey Island NAS, one of our favorite RV Parks.

Still awaiting to receive his renewed driver's license. Should have come before we left.

Gathering of Friends at Niblick's

23 May 2019

Got some more pictures of the Three Sisters Mountains as we walked over to Juniper Golf Club next to RV park.

Never tire of viewing the mountains especially with snow. Golf Course looks nice with view of mountains and a cafe.

Later in the day our long time friends from Salem , Carolyn & Don and Janet came over for several days and we all met at Niblick's Restaurant in Eagle Crest Resort where they were staying. Also included were Alinda and Ernie and Holly and Todd.

Friends Together

Holly is Carolyn and Don's daughter who with her husband Todd live in Bend. After drinks in the bar, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and conversation in the restaurant with the gals at one table and the guys at another. Perfect setup for conversation.Alinda was celebrating her birthday and Don's birthday several days later. Had lots of fun, laughs, hugs and reminiscences.

Outside the restaurant are some very nice sculptures of fun things kids do.

Considering our ages (76-82) except Holly and Todd, we are all doing great.

The World is a more beautiful and satisfying place with our friends and family.

Tomorrow I am meeting Janet for a walk at Eagle Crest.

Later in the day we will go to Costco to get our new glasses. Our checkups went quite well with little change in the past two years. I decided not to get the transition lens again.  Just not happy with them. John is Ok with them.

Earlier in the week John renewed his Driver's License with no problem. He was concerned about his age, but he is good for another 8 years. Our departure is the 29th with a stop at the Ford dealer in Stayton for oil change and new brake pads. Will spend 1 night in Salem since we are unsure about how long it will take, then on to Joint Base Lewis Mcchord in Tacoms before going to Whidbey Island NAS for the month of June.

We finally got some sunshire Thursday and Friday.

Week with Family & Friends

14-19 May 2019

Our days back in Redmond have been filled with family, friends, errands and beautiful snow capped views of the mountains.

Finally a sunny day so captured Three Sisters and Mt Jefferson.

Hope fixed a tasty dinner and beat us at game of scrabble. A beautiful view of Smith Rock from deck. The home remodeling is done and what a difference from last September. They have done a very nice job and still lots to do on outside buildings..projects in the works. We have attended several of the grandsons ballgames and practice, visited all the animals including Cade's 4 pigs, Colt's steer and the two horses Rocky and Katy. Will post photos later. Grandsons are showing at Deschutes County Fair in August. Can't get over how Cade and Colt have grown since September. Will post pictures of them later, also.

On the 18th we went over to our good friends, Alinda and Ernie for dinner. As always Alinda prepared a delicious meal of fried chicken, asparagus, salad and a most unusual potato dish. An evening of wine, dinner, conversation and time with the doggies Rodyo and Buffy. They have a lovely, inviting and warm home filled with many western art themed pictures and objects. There yard of many flowers, bushes and other plants a gardeners paradise. Alinda gave me a jacket made from a sweatshirt..very different and innovative. She is so creative in her artistic ability as is Ernie in his many horseshoe items ranging from a lampstand, to kleenex holder, to outdoor plant stands. Should have taken some photos. We always enjoy our time with them.
Thank you dear friends for a wonderful visit.

On Hope's Smith Rock today with Harley she spotted an eagle. Wish I had been with them. Not a common sight in the area.

Drive to Central Point & Arrival in Redmond

13 May 2019

Early departure today from Crescent City,CA to Central Point,OR via Hwy 199 to IH 5 in Grants Pass. Not a drive we would like to do often...very winding, narrow, two lane, but scenic. Fortunately lots of pullouts.

Drive to Central Point

We went to C & C tires to get our new Michelin tires installed. We used them in November 2013 when we had the blowout on the inner back driver's side tire and used the FMCA discount. We then checked in at the KOA Gold Hill for 3 nights;however, due to impending weather of thunderstorms, we decided to stay only 1 night and they graciously refunded the 2 nights. This was our second stay here and would definitely recommend. It is very clean, quiet, FHU and friendly staff.

14 May 2019

Left around 930AM for the 188 mile trip to Redmond OR and next stop until the 30th May, Deschutes County Fairgrounds RV Park. A very nice park with concrete pads, FHU, good space between sites and well maintained. Normally we would stay at Hope and Shawn's, but with their new home there are no hookups and turn into property rather tight. Price here with Good Sam is $35. The only place to stay in Redmond.

Checkin and Laundry

Our drive today had some rain and again rather precarious taking Hwy 62 to 230 to 138 to 97 into Redmond. Worse part of drive was 62 out of Shady Cove and parts of 230. Got up to 6000 ft elevation and there was still snow on ground. Stopped for picnic on Hwy 97 and John felt the tires were over inflated. He was right as 5 of the tires had 120 PSI instead of the 95-100.
So he corrected and plans on notifying C & C.

A bit of Snow

Enjoying the View

Raining when got to campground and motorhome and car filthy from the drive. More rain expected in the next week. Juniper is in bloom and the pollen is giving John misery. The cedar in Texas had the same effect. His eyes are watering and he just feels miserable.  A slight clearing so we went to see Colt play baseball. His team won 11-5. Cade was practicing on another field preparing for a tournament in Klamath Falls this weekend.

It is good to be back with family. Will go over to Hope and Shawn's tomorrow for dinner.
