Arrival in Oregon

27 June-2 July 2018

After spending 1 night with family in Redmond we drove over to Junction City to Guaranty RV and Chevrolet for the purpose of buying a used Malibu to replace our tow car resting in a junkyard in Nova Scotia.

After checking into the Guaranty RV park , we went over to the Guaranty Used car and chose a Maroon 2016 Malibu Lt with 30,000 miles. We then after completing paper work, went to the parts department to see what added parts we needed to complete the tow installation. Unlike the first time we bought our other used Malibu in 2009, this did not go as expected. We told them that we had to depart on the 3rd to return to Redmond and they seemed to think the install could be done by then;however, on Tuesday they told us not all the parts were in. So we decided to bag the whole thing, collected our refund check and when we got to Redmond, John called Roadmaster in Vancouver WA and scheduled an appointment for the 30th of July for them to do the install. This is the first problem we have had with Guaranty in the 9 years we have dealt with them and feel that this particular department needs some quality control and more guidance. We will continue to use them for our Motorhome repairs.

Their RV park is very nice and next to parts store, laundry and cafe. Full hookups, but the price of $44/nt is a bit spendy. On Friday night they had a local western band come in for entertainment..Think it is called Extra Mile. Root beer floats and popcorn served. Enjoyed the entertainment. Met a nice couple, Pamela and Chet from Sequim WA who had just purchased a new Newmar Bay Star. Very nice motorhome and know they will have many good days of travel. Hope we keep in touch.

While at the park we also visited with our friends from Nellis, Phil and Denise. They have been in Coburg since middle of May getting repairs on their Motorhome. They hope to depart in the next week. We went to dinner at Junkyard Burgers and Brats in Harrisburg. Interesting place and food was good. Will see them again in Nellis this year.

On Sunday we drove part of the coast to Newport and back from Reedsport. Oregon has one of the most beautiful and interesting coasts of all travels. We also saw a herd of Elk on the way from Reedsport to IH5.

On Tuesday we drove back to Redmond with me following in the Malibu. Nice drive over the Santiam Pass. This car is luxury compared to our 2003. First time driving a car with so many bells and whistles. Need to get the manual out to make sure I don't hit a wrong button. Maybe we get 220,000 out of this one.

Our plans are to stay here until the 20th when we spend 9 nights in Salem on our way to Vancouver. We have friends to visit in the area. We will return to Redmond on the 31st in time for the Deschutes County Fair and the grandsons showing of their pigs. No plans after this.
