Drive to West Yellowstone

5 July 2017

We had a nice drive today from Missoula to West Yellowstone, Mt via IH90 to Hwy 287 to Hwy 191 to Hwy 20. It is around a 290 mile drive with the most scenic part on Hwy 287 via Ennis and Madison River Valley and Quake and Hebgen Lakes. Madison River is a great fishing area or so we have been told. We visited this route in 2015 during our visit here. We also passed the Bozeman Trail in the Madison Valley. Quake Lake was formed after an earthquake struck on 17 August 1959 killing 28 people. It was known as the Hebgen Lake earthquake or Yellowstone quake.

This is our second stay at Rustic Wagon RV Park and one of the nicest in the town. Ken is very helpful and friendly. Sites are nice and park is well maintained. Our site is #6 affording us satellite. WiFi is very good as well. Location is convenient to town and Hwy 20. They only take cash or check. Definitely recommend this park.

Tomorrow we meet up with son Eric and granddaughters Kendyl and Parker for tours of Yellowstone NP. They are only here for a few days so we will be out and about early. They are staying in a condo 20 miles south in Island Park, ID.
