Our blog is to keep family and friends informed of our motorhome journeys.
We have dreamed of this for many years and finally our dream has come true.
We are looking forward to many happy miles ahead.

Friends and Chores

31 October 2016

Have spent the last 10 days visiting with friends, doing major cleaning of iHome, getting it washed and John doing those long delayed repairs of minor things such as replacing cabinet hinges etc. He still has a list of things to do.

I also framed some pictures of the kids and grandkids.

We visited with Donna and Larry, our friends from Alaska and touring their new 5th wheel and cab. We last saw them at Fairchild AFB in Spokane in August. John took them to the airport for their 2 week trip back to Alaska.

The campground is adding 82 spaces with the construction to start in December. This has been in the planning stage for sometime. Anxious to see the finished campground. We certainly like our site 6 across from Circle 1. Hope we are able to get this area when we return in February.

Plans for New Addition

We had our checkups at the clinic and all is well. Other than a few aches and pains, I am doing fine. John's A1C was lower and due to his Type 2 diabetes, he has to have an eye examine. I will get one as well as it has been 2 years.

We  met our good friends, Rose Mary and Chuck at the Bagel Cafe for lunch one day. I had every intention of getting a corned beef sandwich, but couldn't resist the salmon sandwich..passed on the bread. John brought his other 1/2  corned beef home for dinner. It was so good seeing them again and sure we will have more visits during our stays in the next few months.

The  campground has many activities planned for November and we are looking forward to the airshow the weekend of the 12th. Should be a lot of fun.

Upcoming Activities
Managed to get a few photos of a sunset.

Our RV friends, Jim and Gloria are due in tomorrow for a week. Looking forward to seeing them again. We last visited at Whidbey and McChord.

Very Nice Drive From Ely to Las Vegas

20 October 2016

A very pretty drive today down the Great Basin Highway 93 from Ely to Las Vegas about 250 miles. Not much traffic.

The mountain ranges take on a beauty all their own. The drive takes you by the Miller Outlook of the Cathedral Gorge SP near the town of Panaca. This is a must stop. Kind of reminds me of a little Bryce Canyon.

As we drive down the highways, wonder how people live so far from hospitals, gas stations, schools, neighbors and shopping..could be up to 100 miles.

We arrived at Nellis AFB "Desert Eagle" RV Park. This is our 5th stay here and number 6 will come again in February and March. A very nice and well maintained park. Looking forward to friends arrival and visiting our friends, Rose Mary and Chuck who live in LV. Also, getting more photos of the Thunderbirds practicing. When we left Ely, the temperature was 20 and we are now in 80 sunshine.

White Pine Museum and Lunch at Economy Drug

18 October 2016

The White  Pine Museum "Home of the Cave Bear"  was opened in 1959 with many donated  and loaned exhibits depicting life in White Pine County. It also contains historical documents, photos depicting life in the area from the Shoshone who were the first people, to mining, to Pony Express, Overland stage and the coming of the Nevada Northern Railway which made possible the development of the copper industry.

The bones of two giant short faced bears were discovered in a White Pine cave in 1982. A model of the 12,000 year old Cave Bear is exhibited at the museum. Looks more like a dinosaur to me.

The Nevada Cherry Creek depot was moved to Ely in 1989. Local elementary students raised $11,000 to fund the move. The depot is around 100 years old. The Railway arrived in Ely in 1906 for the purpose of moving ore from the new copper mines at Ruth to the mill and smelter at McGill to be shipped 146 miles north to Union Pacific line.

After our museum visit, we had lunch at Economy Drug featuring an old fashioned sode fountain. The drugstore is a third generation owned business and opened in 1946. The milkshake was delicious and made with real ice cream. We also had a sandwich served with a fresh apple.

We then drove around town and I took some Mural Photos.

We discussed driving to the Great Basin NP, but the day was getting late and the drive is 70 miles.

We leave Thursday for Nellis AFB in LV until the 7 December. Will re-connect with our group and enjoy some good conversations and get togethers. We will return again in Feb and Mar. The campground is adding 85 spaces.

Our drive down will take us on the Great Basin Highway 93 and distance is around 250 miles.
