Last Night in Great Falls and Drive to Helena

16 August 2016

Our last night in Great Falls was spent with our friends Pat and Darwin and their family for a delicious dinner. I took baked beans and fruit salad and had a very enjoyable evening. They sure have a lovely family. Will visit again at Nellis in Las Vegas. Thank you again for a great time.

Dinner at Pat and Darwin's and family

In the evening got a beautiful sunset with impending storm clouds. Montana sure knows how to display the storms with thunder and lightning. Tomorrow we leave for Helena and visit with friends Rocky and Loretta.

It is only a 2 hour drive down IH 15 to Helena, so we were not in such a hurry to leave.  The drive is very scenic following the mountains and Missouri River most of the way. Stopped at the Mansfield scenic overlook.

Our campground for the next 3 nights is Fort Harrison military base, This is our first visit and the campground is very nice with  full hookups. Only $21/day. We toured the historic part of the base in 2010, which now belongs to the VA Hospital. The campground is  on the Montana National Guard Training Base. Very quiet and overlooking the mountains. The thrill for me is the deer roaming freely..got lots of pics.

Tomorrow we are going over to Rocky and Loretta's for lunch and then take the Gates of the Mountains boat cruise.
