Planes,Hummingbirds,Repairs and Campground Gathering of Friends

25 January 2016

This week has been one of movie, dinner with friends, repairs on iHome and campground friends get together for potluck. I also got hummingbird feeder hung and took some photos of  planes overhead, although not so good. We are not in the best spot for this, but we do like our site otherwise.

On Monday we joined our friends Chuck and Rose Mary at Aliante  to see "13 Hours" and afterwards for dinner at "TGFriday's". With the Aliante card you get half off for movie which cost $8 for both of us. With your ticket stub, you get 1 free dinner at Friday's. Such a deal!!

The  movie although very intense and 2 1/2 hrs long, we highly recommend. Gives a more complete story of what really happened in Benghazi. Still many unanswered questions of which we will never know.

John finally repaired the toilet base and what a difference. It is a job John hopes he never has to repeat. Thank goodness he has the stomach for this type of job as I find it very nauseating. He is adept at cleaning  the drains..another job I don't have the stomach to do. Frankly,he is very good at fixing things, which  has saved  us a lot of repair bills. He gets paid in  other ways. Before we depart, he has one last task to  do..replacing the skylight cover on the roof which has a crack.

Have had several hummingbirds at the feeder and one small bird keeping an eye on it. Had to borrow some sugar for the water since I never buy this.

Have been trying to get pictures of the Thunderbirds, but only able to bet a single shot. Also, got some photos of the F-22's, Awac, and B-1. Not as close as I would like. Have posted some Thunderbird pics from 2014. We were in a good site then for better pictures..more open.

Red Flag Training

Friday we had a campground gathering at Pat and Darwin's of our old  and new friends. About 20 of us. I made a pasta salad with vegetables, Dusty barbequed the ribs and other campers brought an assortment of fruit salas, baked beans, dessert etc. Due  to weather, this  is  first gathering of 2016. Pat and Darwin you are great hosts and thank you. To all ,the food was delicious.

Dinner with son, Eric..Car Repair..Drive to Mt Charleston

18 January 2016

This past week involved dinner with son Eric who was in town for a meeting, major car repair involving the radiator, medical appointments, errands and a ride up to Mt Charleston. Weather is still cool in the 50's and some overcast days.

On Tuesday we met son Eric at the Luxor for dinner. Even though visit was short, sure was good seeing him again. We will see Eric and Darin again when we are in San Antonio first week of April.

Dinner with Son, Eric

Car repairs involved intake manifold gaskets, thermostat, ignition wires, spark plugs and coolant recovery tank. We found a place near the base that had good reviews called Quick. John is very impressed with their work and the price of $600. The Malibu is now 13 years old with 170,000 miles plus 61,000 tow miles. We take good care of it and want it to continue to be our tow car for a few years.

To test out the repairs, on Sunday we drove up to Mt Charleston and had lunch at The Resort at Mt Charleston on the way to the ski and snow play area at 9,000 ft. Car did very good.

Mt Charleston  which is officially named Charleston Peak is the highest mountain in the Spring Mountains at 12,000 ft and the eight highest in the state. Nevada has over 314 mountain ranges. It is located 35 miles NW of Las Vegas. It is a popular spot for getaways both in summer and winter. Parking was a big issue, so we just drove by the snow play areas and got a few pictures. Kids and adults were having fun playing in the snow.

Arrival Nellis AFB-Las Vegas

2 January 2016

After 1 night at March Air Field, we decided to depart for Nellis AFB in Las Vegas today instead of 5 January.
We are fortunate to have gotten a very nice spot #78 in spite of arriving early. We were unable to get in Circle 1 where most of our friends are located, but still close to them in Circle 4.

On Monday we met our friends Chuck and Rose Mary who live here for lunch at Bagel Cafe. We were so engrossed in conversation that I forgot to take a photo so have posted one from 2014 when we having lunch at Mimi"s.We will have several other opportunities while we are here until the 5 March.

On Tuesday, the rain started and predicted for several days. We will get a delivery of propane today as well. It is cold with temps in 50's during day and 30's at night. Electric blanket sure come in handy.

Wednesday we had our medical checkups at the clinic  Our checkups went well and we had the same PA as last year. She remembered us and spent almost an hour with each of us. Will go back next week for mammogram and bone density scan. We are so fortunate to be able to use the clinic on base as we feel more attention and care is given to us. Sure others feel the same way.

Our dinner get together at Memphis Barbeque was lots of fun. 10 of us were able to attend and the conversation was enjoyable and humorous at times. It is so nice to be able to get together year after year. One of the couples unfortunately on their way here, totalled their Motorhome and tow vehicle due to blowout on a front tire. The good news is that they were close to family near Ft Worth when it happened and they were not seriously injured. Another couple is celebrating their 50th Anniversary touring Hawaii.

Below is a photo of one of the big rigs in park. He is here every year for about 6 months. Sure when driving down the highway there are lots of ooh's and aah's from passing motorists.

Also on the way to the clinic, got an early morning photo of snow on mountains after the rain.

Saying Goodby to Coronado

01 January 2016

Regrettably  we left Fidder's Cove Navy RV Park on Coronado this morning. Sure will miss the beautiful views of the San Diego Bay,Navy Ships, Beaches and ambiance of Coronado. No more finding sand dollars, watching the shore birds, beach walking and sheer serenity of the ocean until next time.
