Merry Christmas and Happy 2017

25 December 2016

We are sending our wishes for a Very Merry Christmas and wishing you Joy, Peace and Blessings for 2017.

Today we finally got a break in the weather and after lunch will do a walk on the beach. This past week has had wind, rain and cooler weather.

On our walk around the campground, took more photos of Navy ships across the bay. What a beautiful  sight. God Bless our military.

This is our 31st Christmas together and 26 years of marriage. On our first Christmas John gave me a color TV and I gave him what I thought was a very nice sweater. Unfortunately John did not care for it and it finally ended up at Goodwill. Some years ago we made the decision to only exchange cards. This is fine for us as we really don't need much and besides we buy little things as needed thru out the year. We do the same for birthdays and anniversaries.

Was thinking the other day of how many gifts you can name of holidays past and what you gave family. I sure can't.

Anyway, I digress.

This is our 2nd Christmas in Coronado at Fiddler's Cove and our 4th visit. Keep coming back as it is so relaxing.

Just Relaxing and Photos

20 December 2016

Our time here has been so relaxing overlooking the Bay, Navy Ships, boats, walking the beach everyday, getting our late morning coffee and bagel at Bruegger's, and some errands.

John finally resolved the flag pole problem utilizing the round light we purchased. Made a trip to Flag Pole Buddy for some modification parts so it does not make so much noise and John drilled another pin hole nearer the top.

Put up our Christmas decorations. Some in the campground go all out with lights etc.

Finally found a stand for my banners at a store on Orange Avenue called "Treasures of the Heart". Well worth the cost of $30. May get another one before we leave. Should be good for the wind, easy to set out..no more pounding in the ground.

Found over 50 sand dollars on the beach at the Navy Air Station beach. Promised the ladies at Nellis I'd bring some back to them. It is the thrill of the find that keeps me looking. Sometimes I give them to kids on the beach and grandkids.Have also found some heart shaped rocks for Hope.

This week we want to once again view the Hotel del Coronado Christmas decorations. Enjoyed it last year.

Last week we had Shade Pro Awnings come out and make an adjustment to our big awning. Several years ago we had them replace the slideout covers. They will be out this week to install the tire shades..should be much easier that the ones that slip around the tire, plus those get so dirty.

Read about a cleaning solution for the stainless steel sink in kitchen..put some baking powder on a sponge and wipe around then rinse with white vinegar..it really works..cheap and non toxic.

In March of 2015, we got the Withings app, scale and BP monitor. It has been a real incentive for daily walks. Yesterday I got the Ganges River badge showing I have walked 1,550 miles (length of the Ganges River). This is equivalent to 3,273,600 steps around an average of 2 1/2 miles a day. Some weeks I walk 20 miles to 25 miles depending on the weather and campground. You get badges for each milestone you walk.

Well that is about all for now, off to Bruegger''s and beach walk.

San Diego Lighted Christmas Boat Parade

11 December 2016

In the afternoon we went to the beach and I found 2 dozen more sand dollars. The beach on the Naval Air Station seems to have quite a few, probably because there are less people on the beach.

In the evening we went down to the  end of Orange Ave to view the lighted boat parade. This year the theme is animals in celebration of the 100th birthday of the San Diego Zoo. Participating were some 80 boats very festively decorated for Christmas. The route starts at Shelter Island and goes up the San Diego side, crosses under the Coronado Bridge and travels down the Coronado side. Below are some of the many pictures we took, not the best as I haven't mastered night photos with the Android.

The parade takes place on the 11th and again on the 18th. Dates differ each year, but think it might be the 2nd and 3rd Sundays in December.

Arrival Fiddler's Cove Navy RV Park-Coronado

5-10 December 2016

Our last day before departing we had lunch with Rose Mary and Chuck at Mimi's Cafe and in the evening went with Pat, Darwin, Donna and Larry to Ruby Tuesday's. Got some great pictures of sunset.

6 December

We stopped in Barstow for the night at Shady Lane RV park. After checking in we drove to Edwards AFB about 60 miles away. Were not too impressed with campground..spaces very close and base is in a remote area. The base is home to the Air Force Flight Test Center.

7 December 2016

Our drive to Coronado took us south on IH 15 to Coronado and our home for the next month at Fidder's Cove Navy RV park. This is our 3 stay here. The campground overlooks the bay and Navy shipyard. Rates have increased from $30 to $35, but that is still reasonable for the area. Noticed the Osprey family is back.

The USS Zumwalt came into port today. This is the Navy's newest and most advanced guided missile destroyer costing $4.4 billion. It is 610 ft long and has a crew of 143. Very impressive.

We went to Flag Pole Buddy for some parts for the pole. John spent most of day working on it and hopefully now we can leave it up. Had a problem with light and needed some extra connections and adapters.

10 December

Today is a trip to the beach..something I've been looking forward to since last year. Weather in the 60's with slight breeze and some clouds. We prefer the North Island Naval Station Beach. Found a dozen sand dollars. Will take back to Nellis and give to the gals with more to be added.
