A short 2 hour drive from Pacific Beach to our home for the next 3 nights, Joint Base Lewis and McChord. Fort Lewis is home to the I Corps and McChord to the 62nd Airlift Wing. Both Bases are located 10 miles south of Tacoma in a very nice treed setting. It is a training and mobilization center for all services and the only Army power projectionbase west of the Rockies. The strategic locations provides the Air Force the ability to conduct combat and humanitarian airlift operations with the C-17 Globemaster III.
Last year we stayed on the Fort Lewis side, but opted this year to stay at the McChord AFB Famcamp called Holiday. This RV park is located among the towering fir trees and next to the flight line. A beautiful setting for only $18/nt with full hookups and 50amp.Downside, no satellite TV and internet. We have to use our ATT MI-FI and local channels of which we only get several with static.Still, it is quiet and walking paths very nice.

Certain parts of the base afford beautiful views of Mt Ranier. The Exchange and Commissary are very well stocked and large. Finally found the Coconut Mango sauce we like. Unable to find in regular grocery stores. It goes good on seafood, port and chicken.
Upon our arrival we noticed a water leak next to campsite.Immediate attention was given and the problem fixed in less than two days. It was interesting to watch the fix. A very efficient crew.

Thursday we leave for Vancouver WA to have Roadmaster do some work on our tow bar..more of a precaution than a problem. Will stay there 2 nights a VanMall RV before 1 night in Medford then on to Travis AFB in Fairfield CA for 3 weeks.
Oh yes, we have another problem that needs fixing..the toilet. Seems the lever gets stuck and John has to get the screwdriver and tighten the screw ever so often. He talked to Dometic and they no longer make that model, but they can send a replacement for the stand that has the lever which we will have them do when we get to Travis. He thinks he can do the replacement work and I have full confidence that he can do the job. After all, he has replaced the motorized front shade and restrung 3 window shades..not an easy task.
While we have been here, met some new friends who are from Florida and also fulltimers, Jim and Gloria. We hope to meet up with them along the way again.
Now to supervise John on the window cleaning.
