What a beautiful day for a drive on the Icefield Parkway(Hwy 93) to the Glacier Skywalk..3 hours with stops for photos. The Icefield Parkway starts northbound in Lake Louise and ends in Jasper... a total of 144 miles. See maps below. The parkway goes through Banff and Jasper NP's and entrance is free with the Discovery Pass. If doing a ow, allow at least 5 hours with stops.
Fuel up in Banff or Lake Louise;however, there is a small gas station at Saskatchewan Crossing. There is no cell phone service, so turn off device. Take a picnic lunch and water. The Crossing has a pub, motel and store if needed. By the way Hwy 93 goes from Jasper to Wickenburg,AZ a total of 1720 miles. Quite a change in scenery. www.icefieldsparkway.com
We only went as far as the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Center to do the Skywalk. You can purchase tickets on line or get them here. You get a shuttle from the Discovery Center as there is no parking at the Skywalk. Tickets are $25.00CAD. It is an exciting cliff-edge walkway that leads to a platform where glass is all that separates you from a 918 ft drop. It has only been open since May and a popular stop. I scanned photo from brochure as our pics did not give full scope. Sometimes you can see wildlife, but not this time. www.glacierskywalk.com

After the Skywalk, had our picnic lunch and hiked up the Athabasca Glacier. Wasn't sure I could make it considering the uphill climb and 6,000 ft altitude, but made it with the help of John's hand. Knew when I met him that he would always deal me a good hand. The Glacier is the most visited glacier in NA and one of six principal toes of the Columbia Icefield. If you want to take a tour of the glacier, you can do so on the Ice Explorer tour booked at the Center. You can also do hikes with trained guides.

We also stopped at Peyto Lake. Another exhausting hike, but worth every step for the view of the lake.
Could stay here all summer and not see everything. What a beautiful area. For those who have never visited, you are missing one of the most beautiful areas in North America.
Tomorrow we get ready for our 250 mile drive to Edmonton AB for two weeks. Sure will miss the Canadian Rockies.
