Arrival Kamloops & Sad news About Blackie the Rabbit

15 June 2014

Our route to Kamloops from Aldergrove,BC took us on CA 1 to Hope and CA 5 north climbing to almost 5,000 ft and traveling most of the way beside the Coquihalla River to Merritt, the only town between Hope and Kamloops. Weather was cloudy with only a few sunshine breaks. Would not want to drive this road in snow or rain.

Our campground for the next 3 nights is Kamloops RV park just off Hwy 1 east and 10 miles from downtown. It is located next to the BC Wildlife Park, which if weather improves, will visit. Campground has full hookups and pull in sites for $40CAD/nt. They no longer take the Good Sam discount.

Kamloops is located on the Thompson River with diverse landscape including sagebrush, open grasslands, rugged mountains, forested valleys, clean rivers and lakes. There are many winter and summer activities for excitement and sport. It is also known as Canada's Tournament Capital. On one of our trips to the Canadian Rockies we stayed here, but for the life of me, can't remember where.
So  many times I wish that over the years, I had kept a travel journal like my blog.

Sadly we learned the day before we left that Cade's pet rabbit, Blackie, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Somehow he got into the yard with Casey, the beagle and the rest is history. Cade is very sad. He wanted Blackie cremated like Destiny, but they opted instead to bury him with a sign, rocks and stone rabbit to watch over him. When we return in September will scatter Destiny's ashes next to him. Think Casey thought he was a rock chuck that she often goes into the field and slays.

Did laundry and drove to Post for stamps. Stopped for groceries at Safeway. To get a cart you insert a quarter CAD and when you return it, connect the lock to forward cart and get your quarter returned. This is suppose to prevent carts leaving the area and have you return to cart area. Seems like a good idea...how many carts have you seen along the road? This is first time I have seen this. On way back drove to Riverside Park to get photo of Fort Kamloops plaque..all that remains. Tomorrow we will visit the museum and archives. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.
