This is our last day in Monterey and we decided to have lunch at Schooners at Cannery Row. Had a Bay view table and just enjoyed the view and serenity of the moment. Tomorrow we leave for Vandenberg AFB for 4 nights. We were here last year at about the same time and did most of the sightseeing, so we will just relax. Our next stop will be PT Mugu NAS around 150 miles south.

Before leaving this morning we made one last stop for a donut fix at Monterey Donuts on Fremont and Cassanova just a 5 minute ride from RV Park.In all our travels including Tim Horton's in Canada, this is the best for the freshest and most delicious donuts. Definitely recommend a stop here if in the Monterey area. I like the coconut iced and peanut iced. John likes the Cheesecake.
Drive down to Vandenberg uneventful and not very scenic. Just more brown hills and barren land. Not sure where those "happy California cows" live, but definitely not on this route of 101.
Upon arrival at Vandenberg learned that an Atlas V would be launched on the 5th at 1115PM. We like this campground as it is small with a very nice Commissary and Exchange. Staff very friendly. We were in site 33 with full hookups and a good spot for viewing the launch.
Vandenberg is home to the 30th Space Wing and Department of Defense space and missile testing base placing satellites into polar orbit. The Atlas V launched carried a U.S. Southern Command sponsored nanosatellite into space with potential for more reliable communications for troops around the world.
This time we drove down to the base beach..only one lone person on the beach as weather turned windy and cold, but did get some pictures. This is also the beach where last year an airman was killed by a shark attack.
In checking the weather for departure on Saturday,we decided to leave tomorrow for Pt Mugu.
