Arrival PT Mugu NAS

6 December 2013

Our drive today took us down 101 thru Santa Barbara and mostly along the coast. We stayed here last year for a month and this time until the 24th. A very relaxing campground on the beach. We were unable to get site facing ocean, but we do have a view in our site 104. A good bargain for $30/nt and full hookups with 30amp. The base is known as Naval Base Ventura County Air Station. It consists of Port Hueneme and San Nicolas Island and the largest employer in Ventura County. PT Mugu was used by President Reagan on his trips to his ranch in Santa Barbara.

After settling in we took a walk on the beach and viewed the harbor seals nesting on the Mugu Lagoon, the largest remaining coastal salt marsh in southern California. The lagoon also provides habitat to a variety of wildlife and refuge for five endangered birds.

This will be another relaxing stop for us and time to catch up on those chores put on the back burner.
