Arrival Fort Sam-San Antonio

4 April 2013

We got a late start leaving Lewisville Campground so didn't arrive until 5PM. Also had an hour delay going through Austin due to accident on IH35. Not to mention delay at  Pilot in Waco due to inconsiderate person leaving vehicle at gas pump  blocking the space for us while they went into eat. Finally asked after 30 minutes for a page to have them move vehicle to parking area. After two pages they finally appeared with attitude problem. They even left a sick child in the car. They just don't get it.

This is our 4th time at Fort Sam and certainly will not be our last. This is on our favorite's list of military camp sites. Nice laundry with new equipment, dog area, recycling and friendly staff. Sites are concrete and large. Campground overlooks BAMC Brook Army Medical Center.

Fort Sam Houston is the oldest Army post and has been designated as a National Historic Site with the largest collection of historic structures totaling more than 900. My favorite area is the old Quad where deer, rabbits and peacocks call home. Geronimo and his warriors were captured and held in the Quadrangle. It was also at Fort Sam that Eisenhower met Mamie.

Fort Sam is known as the "Home of Army Medicine" and "Home of the Combat Medic". It is the largest and most important military medical training facility in the world.
