A beautiful day for a drive up the coast to Point Vicente in Palos Verdes
with a stop in San Pedro to see the "Friendship Bell" in Angels Gate Park.
The Lighthouse was built in 1926 perched on a cliff with a light source of 197 ft above sea level and can be seen 20 miles at sea. Until 1939 when it was taken over by the US Coast Guard, it was manned by civilians. In the park is located a very nice marine museum, picnic areas and whale watching platforms.

We then drove down to San Pedro to visit Angels Gate Park and the Friendship Bell given to the city of Los Angeles in 1979 by the Republic of Korea to honor veterans of the Korean War and in commemoration of the bicentennial celebration. The bell is only rung 4 times a year on the 4th of July,15 Aug for Korean Independence Day,New Year's Eve and in September for constitution week. The bell sits inside a pagoda high on a knoll overlooking the Pacific. A very peaceful setting.

In driving back we rode past the ports of San Pedro and Long Beach, one of the largest in the world. I am just awed at all the shipping containers and the wonderment of the operation. Hopefully I can get some good pictures on another visit. We also passed by the USS IOWA which is open for tours. Will see if the boys want to take the tour when they come. Should be an experience for them.
Tomorrow is granddaughter Parker's 10th birthday. Happy Birthday dear one. You are now in double digits.
