Next Stop Topeka

30 August 2012

Left Scott AFB this morning for a long, unscenic drive across Missouri on IH70..some 350 miles. We left just in time as the remnants of Isaac are expected tomorrow.

When we arrived at Scott on the 26th, gas was $3.65/gal..today it was $3.99 so we got just enough to get us into Missouri when we paid $3.69.
Kansas is about the same. Checking the iPhone Gas Buddy app , gas in Colorado Springs is in the $3.40 range. Be glad to get there on 4th.

We arrived at the KOA in Topeka around 4PM and wil be here until the 2nd when we leave for Goodland,KS KOA..another long drive on IH70 across Kansas. We are just going to relax during our Kansas stays as we visited many of the forts last year during our stops in Wakeeny and Wichita.

When walking Destiny, came across two baby rabbits or at least I think that what they were. Not sure where the mama was..maybe foraging for food to feed them. Will check on them later during our stay.
Aren't they Precious?

  1. We stayed at the Goodland KOA on our way home from Colorado. It was easy to find and off the highway enough that we didn't hear any interstate noise. It was clean, had treee, and internet. Cute little cabins to rent also. Somehow I messed up when I made the reservations on line and we ended up with a long pull through with no sewer. As this was our last stop, it was a little inconvenient, but we just pulled up to the sewer dump on our way out. Also discovered that most of the Kansas interstate rest areas have dumps also. I am a Kansas girl. Born in Liberal, lived in Salina, and Great Bend, went to high school in Kansas City, Ks. I don't feel at home til I get to the flat lands, wheat fields and grain silos.
